120 million yen golden
bath stolen from Chiba

A bath made from 18-carat gold worth 120 million yen was stolen
from a hotel in Kamogawa, Chiba Prefecture, Wednesday
morning, police said.

Tokio 31/05/07.  According to the police, the Kominato Hotel Mikazuki
reported at about 9 a.m. that the gold bath, on show in a bathing facility for
men on the 10th floor, had been stolen.

The bath was enclosed by glass walls and a chain securing the door in
one wall had been cut off.

The police are investigating the incident as a theft.

The bath is 121 centimeters wide, 71 centimeters long and 65 centimeters
high, and weighs about 50 kilograms. A 30-kilogram stainless steel frame
bath fixture was also stolen. A metal crane decoration was not taken.

A staff member patrolling the hotel noticed that the bath was missing. The
bath was last seen at about 2 a.m., when another staffer was changing the
men's bathing facility to a women's bath.

According to the hotel, the golden bath was open for public use from 3
p.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
